The Ottawa SuperEX -- also known as the Central Canada Exhibition -- has been a tradition in our city since 1888. Super Ex started as an agricultural fair and grew into an 11-day festival with entertainment, concerts, a carnival midway, and more. One of these years The Ex will (probably) move to new fairgrounds south of Ottawa.
There is a smaller midway planned for August 19-29 at the Ottawa Baseball Stadium. It's called Midway Magic. Info here...

The first exhibition opened on September 20, 1888 opened by Mr. Charles Magee, President of the Exhibition Association, with Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald and Governor General Lord Stanley in attendance. The Exhibition Association was formed to run an annual fair, through a lease of the site from the City of Ottawa.
The primary focus was on agricultural displays, but exhibits included manufacturer's exhibits from the beginning. Livestock was brought to the site and kept in sheds for the duration of the fair. Judging of farm crafts and baking was done, and is still done today.
The Exhibition has operated annually every year since, with the exception of several years during World War II , when the grounds were used by the Canadian military.
Over time, the Exhibition has reduced its agricultural exhibits to the point where today's exhibitions only hold a small exhibit in the Aberdeen Pavilion. Musical concerts take place outdoors on the field and indoors in the Civic Centre arena.
