Residents and businesses in the south and west areas of the City (described below) are asked to limit water usage as much as possible between 8 p.m. on Monday July 6 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday July 7, due to construction activities for the Baseline Transit Station. The areas where people are asked to limit water use are:
The area bounded by Baseline Road to the north, the Greenbelt to the south,
Greenbank Road. to the west and Merivale Rd. to the east,
Barrhaven, Riverside South, and Manotick.
This phase of the Transit Station project deals with temporary closure of a major watermain along Woodroffe Avenue to facilitate sewer construction.
In order to minimize the effect of the closure of this large watermain, residents and businesses are requested to defer any non-essential use of water, such as landscaping, lawn watering, filling swimming pools, and any other exterior use, until the watermain is put back into service after the construction period.
As a result of shutting this section of piping, sediment already within the piping will likely be disturbed and may cause discoloured tap water until City crews can complete the flushing of the system.
The City will keep disruptions to a minimum but customers in the areas identified above may experience reduced water pressure or could have discoloured water as a result of sediment in the system.
While the work is taking place, residents and businesses may experience lower than normal water pressure, and, until the water main has been completely flushed, discoloured water. While this discoloured water is not harmful to your health, it is recommended that you do not drink it and that washing of clothes is delayed until the water runs clear, as it can stain laundry. Should there be discoloured water or the presence of air in the system, allow one cold water tap to run for five to 10 minutes or until the water is clear.
