Today, Mayor Larry O’Brien joined municipal and community leaders from across the nation to celebrate the announcement of participating cities, towns and villages in the trans-Canada Olympic Torch Relay, announced by VANOC, the organizing committee for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C.
The Olympic Torch will arrive in Ottawa on Sunday, December 13, 2009, and will be carried past many of the City’s most spectacular locations and monuments when it arrives in the City.
"I join all Canadians in eager anticipation of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver," said Mayor O'Brien. "The City of Ottawa is proud to participate as a Torch Relay community and I look forward to taking part in this great celebration and having the opportunity to showcase our strong spirit here in the Nation's Capital."

Details about the Torch Relay Route through Ottawa will be announced in the future.
This afternoon, the VANOC Olympic flag was raised in front of Ottawa City Hall at Festival Plaza, and will remain flying until Sunday evening to commemorate Ottawa’s inclusion as a Torch Relay community.
The Olympic Flame will appear in each Canadian province and territory and will cover some 45,000 km before arriving at its final destination in Vancouver for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games that begin on February 12, 2010.
Residents can access the VANOC website, www.vancouver2010.com, to find information about how to apply to become a Torchbearer, or to volunteer for Olympic-related activities.
