Hockey Canada and the host organizing committee for the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship announced today that up to 40 hopefuls competing at Canada’s junior team selection camp in Ottawa will take part in a Red-and-White intra-squad game on Friday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. at SBP Arena.
Head coach Pat Quinn, along with assistant coaches Guy Boucher, Dave Cameron, Willie Desjardins and head scout Al Murray, will use the game to evaluate players striving to make the roster for Team Canada, which is aiming to win its fifth consecutive gold medal in the 2009 tournament.
Canada’s national junior team selection camp will run from Dec. 11-15. Further details on the selection camp will be announced in the coming weeks.
General admission tickets for this Red-and-White game go on sale Thursday, Nov. 20, and are $9, plus service fees. Tickets will be available at CapitalTickets.ca, the SBP Arena box office and all Capital Tickets outlets in Ottawa and Gatineau.
The 31-game IIHF World Junior Championship schedule sees Canada open against the Czech Republic for the second year in a row on the first day of the championship, Friday, Dec. 26, at 7:30 p.m. The opening-day matinee game at SBP Arena will see the United States meet Germany at 3:30 p.m. The championship’s first game features Russia and Latvia at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 at the Civic Centre, which is also where the all-Scandinavian matchup between Finland and Sweden takes place later that day at 6:30 p.m.
