For Immediate Release - July 17, 2008 (Ottawa)- On Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 4 p.m. Annette Buckley from Cork, Ireland will be performing at the Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield, Quebec.  All proceeds will go to Mad About the Arts, a coalition of organizations that use a variety of art forms-film, music, theatre, visual art-to raise  awareness about mental health issues and reduce its stigma.  Current members include:  CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health), CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association), Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre, Canadian Film Institute, the University of Ottawa and the City of Ottawa.

Mental Health issues affect 1 in 4 Canadians, cost the Canadian economy over $30 billion dollars in lost productivity and are associated with a higher risk of suicide and drug and alcohol problems.  No one knows this better than the initiator of this concert, Ottawa native Vickie Kirpatrick.  Having lived with depression and alcohol addiction as well as having a family member with mental illness, she decided to contact CAMH after seeing an anti-stigma advertisement in the Globe and Mail on her flight home to Ottawa to visit her family.  Vickie-who now lives in Ireland-- asked her friend, Annette Buckley, if she would put on a benefit concert.

Buckley, who is no stranger to the Cork live scene, received rave reviews after releasing her debut album, "the ever changing colours of the sea." Her song "whirlwind" was featured on HMV's playlist album.  A Jazz Singer and an Actress in her own right, Buckley combines luscious vocals with great piano playing, think Bjork fused with Billie Holiday and you get a sense of her dexterity and quirkiness.  For a sample of her music, please visit www.annettebuckley.com <http://www.annettebuckley.com/>

"Buckley is quickly becoming one of Cork's most accomplished singer/songwriters" (The Irish Times)

"Annette promises to wow the audience... her talent is her voice" (The Evening Echo)

"Buckley's beautiful voice does justice to her evocative lyrics" (8.5/10... Hot Press)

Tickets cost $7 and can be purchased on-line at www.theblacksheepinn.com <http://www.theblacksheepinn.com> or at the door.

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is a Pan American Health Organization and World Health Organization Collaborating Centre and a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto.
