National Arts Centre expands its popular Canada Day party tradition with free concerts

The National Arts Centre (NAC) announced today it is expanding its Canada Day family party tradition.

 

Joining the incredible lineup of Pinchas Zukerman, the NAC Orchestra, the 400-member Unisong Choir and the Juno award-winning world beats of The Mighty Popo, will be:

·         popular children’s entertainer Tante Caroline (with her sidekicks Noisette and Biscuit);

·         a Kids Corner with puppeteers, a coloring postcard activity and ice cream, and;

·         rare behind the scenes visits at the
historic NAC Theatre.

 

Everyone is welcome and activities are free throughout the day.

 

The NAC’s July 1st tradition attracts thousands of visitors each year and provides families visiting the activities on Parliament Hill an oasis of fun for the whole family.


Highlights of the day include:

 

10 a.m.

 

Unisong Massed Choir 2008

400 choristers from across Canada perform in concert. (Southam Hall)

 

11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Kids Corner

Entertainment and music by Tante Caroline,

activities and lots of fun for kids. (Foyer)

 

11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Behind the scenes at the NAC Theatre

 

11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

 

Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra

Newfoundland Symphony Youth Orchestra  (Main Lobby Stage)

 

1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

 

The Mighty Popo

Juno award-winning performer features African rhythms.
(Outdoor performance on Lawrence Freiman Lane)

 

2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

 

National Arts Centre Orchestra

Pinchas Zukerman leads the NAC Orchestra, the Unisong Choir and members of the NAC Young Artists Programme. (Southam Hall)

 

There will also be a special family-friendly menu at the NAC’s Le Café restaurant, as well as an outdoor food tent and beer garden at reasonable prices.
