The Capital Educators’ Awards will be handed out this Thursday, May 8, at Algonquin College. Hundreds of nominations were forwarded from the nine educational institutions across the city. Twenty Ottawa-Carleton District School Board educators were selected as finalists. For a complete list of OCDSB finalists and a short bio on each, please visit the OCDSB website at: http://www.ocdsb.ca/au_edugala_2008.asp
The Edugala Awards are held each May to recognize the many dedicated teachers working with students in all areas and levels of education in the nation’s capital. Award recipients are chosen based on two criteria: demonstrated excellence in teaching; and acting as a positive role model and/or making a difference in someone’s life.
In essence, the Capital Educators’ Awards celebrate excellence in local education. The goal of the award is succinct – it is to acknowledge and commemorate the commitment and accomplishments of district educators. These awards are quite distinctive in that the recipients are selected from across the whole scope of education from kindergarten to PhD.   This year, the 7th annual Capital Educators’ Awards will be held on May 8 at Algonquin College commencing at 6:00 p.m. with the awards presentation beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The Capital Educators’ Awards are managed by OCRI (the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation) on behalf of nine education partners - Algonquin College, La Cité collégiale, Carleton University, University of Ottawa; Saint Paul University, Conseil des écoles catholiques de langue française du Centre-Est, Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario, Ottawa- Carleton Catholic School Board, and Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. To view the twenty OCDSB finalists please visit the board’s website at: http://www.ocdsb.ca/au_edugala_2008.asp
