More than 200 local students will celebrate music education with a special Music Monday performance on May 5, 2008, at noon in the main lobby of the National Arts Centre.

The concert will culminate at 1 p.m, when students at the NAC and in schools from coast to coast in Canada sing or perform in unison a song written for Music Monday “Our Song” by the female duo Dala.

The performance features the Rideau Lakes Brass Quintet and the Cantiamo Girls Choir of Ottawa with conductor Laura Hawley and accompanist Dr. James Wright.  Our two co-hosts, oboist Emma Porter and trombonist Julien Simard, are students from l’École secondaire catholique Béatrice-Desloges and members of the Ottawa Youth Orchestra. Students and teachers from five schools in the English and French Ottawa school boards are taking part.
Music Monday is a very special and important day for music education in Canada organized by the Coalition for Music Education in Canada. This concert will mark the National Arts Centre’s fourth year participating in Music Monday.  Each year the event grows larger as Music Monday is celebrated in schools and communities throughout Canada. For more information, please visit: www.weallneedmusic.ca.
The National Arts Centre’s participation in Music Monday is made possible in part by gifts to the National Youth and Education Trust (Founding Partner, TELUS).
