Over the weekend, the National Capital Commission hosted 37 professional and amateur carvers from 13 different countries at the Casino du Lac-Leamy Crystal Garden 21st International Ice-Carving Competition, held in Confederation Park. This year, 13 carvers participated in the Singles Category and had 28 hours to create their masterpieces, while 12 teams competed in the Pairs Category and had 30 hours to work on their icy creations.
The NCC is pleased to announce the winners of the 21st International Ice-Carving Competition in the Solo and Pairs categories:
1st place: Manabu Yoshinami (Japan), sculpture entitled To the Sky
2nd place: Steve Armance (France), sculpture entitled Selkis
3rd place: Kla Kitburi (Thailand), sculpture entitled Singha (Siamese lion)
Public's Choice Award: Manabu Yoshinami (Japan), sculpture entitled To the Sky
Media Choice Award: Manabu Yoshinami (Japan), sculpture entitled To the Sky
Pairs Category
1st place: Ross Baisas and Armando Baisas (Canada), sculpture entitled Tunggalian (The Encounter)
2nd place: Larry MacFarlane and Tom Pitt (Canada), sculpture entitled Springtime
3rd place: Stanley Kolonko and Thomas Bagdovitz (USA), sculpture entitled Evening Snowfall
Public's Choice Award: Ross Baisas and Armando Baisas, sculpture entitled Tunggalian (The Encounter)
Media Choice Award: Michael Muli and Prasert Krachodnog (Canada), sculpture entitled Native Celebration
On Friday, February 1, carvers taking part in the One Block Challenge transformed one block of ice in an icy creation inspired by the theme of "Arctic Art" in two hours. The NCC announced the winners of the One Block Challenge at Confederation Park on Friday, February 1:
1st place: Ross Baisas (Ottawa, Canada)
2nd place: Corby Pearce (Canada)
3rd place: Armando Baisas (Ottawa, Canada)
