Skate Canada announced today that Ottawa will host the 2008 HomeSense Skate Canada International. The event will take place Oct. 30 to Nov. 2, 2008 at Scotiabank Place.

"We welcome the opportunity to bring some of the best international skaters to such a world class facility as Scotiabank Place for the first time. The venue is very well equipped to host such a high level international skating event," said William Thompson, Skate Canada Chief Executive Officer. "In addition, there is a wealth of expertise in the Ottawa volunteer community and together we are looking forward to adding HomeSense Skate Canada International to the list of successful events that have been held at Scotiabank Place."

"We're excited to bring Skate Canada International to Scotiabank Place," said Tom Conroy, vice-president and executive director of Scotiabank Place. "Scotiabank Place continues to showcase the top national and international entertainment and sporting events, and we feel this will be another great success for the Ottawa community."

This is the fourth time that Skate Canada International has been held in Ottawa and the first time since it has been included as an event on the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series which was established in 1998. It was previously held in Ottawa in 1976, 1981 and 1993, when world medalists Kurt Browning, Lu Chen, Gordeeva and Grinkov and Moniotte and Lavanchy won the men's, ladies', pair and ice dance events respectively.

All-event tickets will go on sale Nov. 28, 2007 at the Scotiabank Place box office; online at www.capitaltickets.ca or by phone 1-877-788 FANS (3267) / 613-599-FANS. Prices are $110 and $130 plus applicable taxes and surcharges.

HomeSense has been the title sponsor of the event since 2006.

Skate Canada International is the second of six competitions in the annual ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series. The other events take place in the United States, China, France, Russia and Japan. Skaters are awarded points based on their placements in the series' events. The top-six men and ladies and the top-six pair and ice dance teams qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final.
