Mayor Larry O'Brien purchased the first of 20,000 raffle tickets to be sold for a 2007 Honda Fit Sport this afternoon from representatives of the Ottawa Food Bank. The purchase marks the launch of Celebrating our Children - The Mayor's Food Drive, in support of Ottawa Food Bank's Baby Supply Cupboard.
"The proceeds from ticket sales will help stock the shelves of the Ottawa Food Bank's Baby Supply Cupboard with non-perishable baby food items and toiletries," said Mayor O'Brien. "The Cupboard provides for our city's most vulnerable - infants and toddlers whose parents lack the resources to provide for them. I'm confident that Ottawa residents, with their sense of community and compassion, will join me in helping the families of our great city."
The 2007 Honda Fit Sport will be on display at Ottawa City Hall from April 16 to June 9, 2007. Raffle tickets will be available for $2 each at City Hall (in front of the Client Service Centre), Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and at community locations citywide. The winning ticket will be drawn on Saturday, June 9, 2007.
"This partnership is an important one for the Ottawa Food Bank," said Peter Tilley, Executive Director of the Food Bank. "The Baby Supply Cupboard assists parents in need by providing expensive items such as formula, baby food and diapers which are in high demand."
In addition to the sale of raffle tickets, a family-fun day will be held on Saturday June 9, 2007, also in support of the Ottawa Food Bank's Baby Supply Cupboard. Laurier Avenue will be closed between Elgin and Nicholas streets where the City of Ottawa's Fire, Paramedic and Police Services will have vehicles on display for children to visit. An afternoon of entertainment for all ages, activities will include musicians, clowns, jugglers and face painting.
