"Trpceski is the real deal. A pianistic talent in a thousand,"
declared The Times of London in 2005. Now Simon Trpceski (pronounced SeeMON,
Trip-CHES-kee) makes his National Arts Centre Orchestra debut in concerts on
Wednesday, January 10 and Thursday, January 11 at 20:00 in NAC Southam Hall
performing the Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 2. On the podium of the NAC Orchestra
for these first concerts of 2007 is another newcomer to Ottawa: Danish conductor
Thomas Dausgaard, who will also lead the Orchestra in Debussy's shadowy, sensual
Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Dvorák's congenial Symphony No. 6.

Though still in his mid-twenties, Simon Trpceski has established himself as one of
the most remarkable young musicians to have emerged in recent years, playing with
many of the world's great orchestras and delighting audiences world-wide. Born in
the Republic of Macedonia in 1979, Simon Trpceski has won prizes in international
piano competitions in the UK (London International Piano Competition 2000), Czech
Republic and Italy. His highly successful 2004 Proms debut with the Scottish Chamber
Orchestra prompted the Independent's critic to write "people will be auctioning
tickets for Simon Trpceski soon". Simon's first recital recording, as part of the
EMI Classics' Debut Series, features music by Tchaikovsky, Scriabin, Stravinsky and
Prokofiev. It received both the Editor's Choice and the Debut Album Awards at the
Gramophone Awards. Simon's second recital recording, an all Rachmaninov disc on EMI
Classics main label, has received unanimous praise from the critics. He has recorded
a Chopin recital disc which will be released in North America on January 30. Simon
will meet his fans at a CD signing after each concert in Ottawa.

Thomas Dausgaard became chief conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra/DR
in 2004 and continues as principal conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, which
has recently performed at the Ravinia and Mostly Mozart festivals in the US and made
its debut at the Proms in London. This season they will record Beethoven's Ninth
Symphony, the culmination of their Beethoven season for Simax. He also guest
conducts regularly in the UK with orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony
Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic and the London Philharmonic, and in the US where his
recent and forthcoming engagements include the Baltimore, Minnesota, Detroit and
Houston Symphony Orchestras. A prolific and award-winning recording artist,
Dausgaard's Danish Radio recording projects include the complete Langgaard
symphonies for Da Capo and Berlioz and Lutoslawski for Chandos.
