On Tuesday October 5, Ottawa mayoral candidates Jim Watson, Larry O’Brien, Andrew Haydon and Clive Doucet will go head-to-head in Debate 2.0 – Envisioning Ottawa’s Future, a 90-minute, webenabled event during which citizens of Ottawa, particularly youth, will be encouraged to participate both online or in-person at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage.
The debate will be moderated by longtime federal cabinet minister and Ottawa resident Sheila Copps.
“We know that our readers are looking for new ways to engage in politics online,” stated Apartment613 editor François Levesque. “This debate is our way of bringing municipal politics to our readers and believe this will be the campaign’s most interactive event.”
Citizens can participate in Debate 2.0 in several ways:
• Attend the event in-person at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage on Tuesday, October 5 at 9 p.m.
• Watch the debate live on RogersTV channel 22
• Watch the live webcast and submit questions or comments by following the link from http://www.naccna.ca (Local bloggers Ian Capstick and Walter Robinson will animate the online portion of the debate)
• Upload video questions for the candidates, live or in advance, to the event’s YouTube group at
http://www.youtube.com/group/ottawaelections2010
• Discuss the event on Twitter with the hashtag #ott2010
“We wanted to engage young Ottawans in a different fashion to understand how important the issue of governance is to them and to the future of our city” stated Maryantonett Flumian, President of the Institute On Governance. “We look forward to a fruitful discussion both in person and online.”
To reserve your seat at the debate please email ott2010@nac-cna.ca or phone (613) 947-7000, ext. 540. Please note that seating is limited and that priority will be given to youth.
