Gloucester-Southgate Ward Councillor Diane Deans and the Albion-
Heatherington Fairlea community will celebrate the highly anticipated unveiling of Vision
Weave, a new public art commission created for the newly constructed Albion-
Heatherington Recreation Centre.
The ceremony and reception will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. (ribbon cutting at 6:45
p.m.) on Thursday September 9, at 1560 Heatherington Road; light refreshments will
follow. Families in the Albion-Heatherington Fairlea community have been invited to the
ceremony.
The Vision Weave project was the winning entry in a City competition that called for
public art to enhance the main lobby of the Albion-Heatherington Recreation Centre.
The project, led by artists Thoma Ewen and Gabriel Ewen Phillips, invited members of
the community to participate in creating colourful woven tapestries by writing messages
of visions for the present and future community on ribbons.
“Participating in Vision Weave was an experience I will always remember,” said
Councillor Deans. “It was incredible to see the number of community participants, of
different ages and backgrounds, come together to share their visions of a vibrant,
peaceful and creative community.”
