The Queer Youth Comics Project is a French and English workshop series teaching LGBTTQ youth and youth from LGBTTQ families how to write and draw comics for self-expression. The Queer Youth Comics Project aims to build a stronger LGBTTQ youth community through the arts and to give queer youth a safe and supportive environment to express their identities.
Youth between the ages of 16 and 25 who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirited and queer or who are from families that identify as such are welcome to participate.
The public is invited to a mini-exhibition of the project participants’ work and community panel discussion on queer youth at SAW Gallery on November 9, 2010. The exhibition will take place between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. and the panel discussion between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.
We will continue the community dialogue on LGBTTQ youth with an exhibition at the Shenkman Arts Centre between January 18 and 29, 2011. The vernissage for this exhibition will be between 1:00 and 3:00 pm. on January 23, 2011.
Workshop dates are as follows:
Tuesday, September 14, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, September 26, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 12, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 24, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, November 9, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
*French and English workshops will be at the same time but at different locations except for the final workshop. The November 9 workshops will be at Club SAW.

The workshop fee is $100 for 5 workshops. Youth can attend workshops individually for a drop-fee of $25. Five scholarship spots to cover the admission fee are available. Participants must bring their own materials.
