Council today approved a grant for $20,464 to cover development charges for a Habitat for Humanity site at 1216 Carp Road. Habitat for Humanity has built the house and is in the process of selling it to a family living below the Low Income Cut-Off as established by Statistics Canada, contributing to the City's affordable housing.
The grant requires repayment of the sum in the event that the unit does not remain affordable for a term of 20 years but will be forgiven if the unit remains affordable for the entire 20-year term.
Council has also entered into a loan agreement with the Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre to provide up to $600,000 towards the construction of a new facility that will house a wide variety of community organizations and create a social services hub for the community. Confirmed community partners who will lease space in the building include La Cité Collégiale, the Youth Services Bureau, Action Logement, Healthy Babies Healthy Children, and Catholic Family Services.
