GREAT BIG SEA BOOKED FOR GREY CUP FESTIVAL!
Popular, upbeat Newfoundland band to perform Friday, Nov. 19 at Ottawa
Civic Centre
OTTAWA - Great Big Sea, the popular, award-winning music band from
Newfoundland, will perform during Ottawa's Grey Cup festival on Friday
night, November 19 at 8:30 p.m.
Two days prior to kickoff of Grey Cup 2004, Great Big Sea will perform
at the Ottawa Civic Centre Arena - adjacent to Frank Clair Stadium. The
concert will be the headline event of Friday's Kickin' It In the Capital
Grey Cup festival.
Renegades season ticket holders get a first crack at purchasing tickets
for the show, which is one of dozens of events leading up to the Grey
Cup game. Tickets go on sale Thursday, August 26 for season ticket
holders. The tickets, being sold for $37.50, open up to the general
public on Thursday, September 9 at 10 a.m.
Great Big Sea is no stranger to putting on blockbuster shows in front of
big audiences. In 1999, the band hosted a free concert on New Year's Eve
at the St. John's Waterfront that drew over 90,000 people and was
broadcast around the world. They have also twice been featured
prominently on the nationally telecast Juno Awards program. Since
emerging onto the music scene in 1993, the band has had four gold or
platinum albums and have cumulatively sold over one million copies.
Their latest release - Something Beautiful - cements the band's
reputation as one of the world's pre-eminent folk-rock ensembles.
Combining the integrity of traditional folk with the power and
accessibility of contemporary rock and pop, the album's more pronounced
rhythms have drawn appeal to broad audiences across Canada, and abroad.
Opening for Great Big Sea will be Jimmy Rankin, the acclaimed East Coast
artist, formerly of the Rankin family.
The 92nd Grey Cup Game will be held on Sunday, November 21 at Frank
Clair Stadium in Ottawa. The Renegades are honoured to host Canada's
premiere sporting festival and event. As an organization, the Renegades
hope to put on a show that will be regarded as one of the best Grey Cup
festivals ever. In Ottawa, the Kickin' it in the Capital Grey Cup
Festival begins on Wednesday, November 17, featuring celebration events
at various locales throughout the city, leading up to the game. For more
