Mark this date down: Monday 27 September. It's the evening Project Chance Africa (PCA) is staging its BIG event, 7 to 10pm, at The Great Canadian Theatre Company at Wellington and Holland, and YOU want to be there. Suan Cross, Board President of PCA, and her committee have been working tirelessly to provide a fantastic evening chock‐a‐block with fun, entertainment and good feeling. And all for an exceptional cause: Project Chance Africa supports a school, the Loving Concern Education Centre, in the Mathare slum in Nairobi, Kenya. Living in this chaotic, desperate place, the Centre's children have no other opportunity for education ‐‐ perhaps their only route to escaping their circumstances. Many are also fed at the school, their only meal of the day. The Rise UP event will feature: performances by the Baobab Youth Performers (part of the Baobab Tree Drum Dance Community) and the Ottawa Stilt Union; DJ duties by Ross Murray; a kickin' silent auction; and a live auction marshalled by Derek Diorio, founder of Skit Row. Extraordinary food will be provided by DISH, and you'll be treated to a distinctly African DAWA drink as you enter the party dancing! And of course there are some fantastic auction items... Can you imagine an evening in your own home, for you and seven others, with a fabulous Italian feast provided by Rocco Disipio, served by none other than PCA Prez Suan Cross, with musical accompaniment by Anouk? It's here, for the highest bidder. As well as fantastic ceramic sculpture from Raymond Warren. An exceptional painting by Denise Coker. Or maybe you'd like to bid to treat yourself to an organic facial and body treatment at Daya Spa... ? This fundraiser is working under a tight deadline. PCA aims to raise $20,000 at the Rise UP event as the Mathare school, which doubles as a community centre, is in peril. It has been kicked out of the building it's been using for some years and has to find a new home. While PCA has identified another building, and put a down payment on it, another $20,000 is needed by October 14th to secure it. In typical form, PCA has responded positively to this challenge. This event promises to be hugely entertaining fun, a chance to treat yourself or someone else to some absolutely vivid auction items ‐‐ and feel good about it while you do so, knowing the cause is so important. And the children of the Loving Concern Education Centre will be the big winners here, as they continue their learning. Tickets for the event are $85, with a tax receipt $50 provided. They are available at Vanilla at 256 Elgin at Somerset. For more info, see www.projectchanceafrica.com, where there is a link to the PCA Facebook page.
