Ottawa Public Health (OPH) has introduced an updated, easier-to-use version of the restaurant inspections website as part of the EatSafe Ottawa program.
The website, which provides the results of food safety inspections of all food establishments in Ottawa, was re-designed following extensive usability tests and consultations. The new version of the website is available on ottawa.ca
“The new website has better navigation and search capabilities and displays information in a way that is easier to understand”, said Councillor Diane Deans, chair of the Community and Protective Services Committee.
The restaurant inspections website was re-launched this week as part of an update on the Food Safety Program to CPSC. OPH reported that:
• The Food Safety Program has been successful in recruiting new public health inspectors and is inspecting more premises than ever before;
• Investments have been made in new technologies to increase staff efficiency and improve access to the public;
• The response to H1N1, the west end flood and staff training for new technologies impacted inspection frequency in 2009;
• A quality assurance process for food premises inspections has been implemented to further strengthen the quality of food premises inspections.
OPH is on track to meet 100 per cent of its 2010 inspection targets for food premises. It is projected that the program will have a total of 14,000 inspections completed by end of year. This would be the highest total recorded by OPH.
