Take OC Transpo to the Canada Day festivities and fireworks and get a free ride home after 10 p.m. It’s the best option for residents and visitors heading downtown.

Related:

OC Transpo will operate a Sunday schedule on July 1, with additional service during the day and following the fireworks on Parliament Hill. On Friday, July 2, a reduced weekday schedule will run, as ridership is expected to be lower than normal following the holiday. Schedules are available at octranspo.com.
Be sure to head out by 7:30 p.m. if you’re going downtown to see the fireworks. Plenty of free parking will be available at Park & Ride lots across the city or you can Rack & Roll and take advantage of the NCCs bike valet service at three official sites: Parliament Hill, Major's Hill Park and Jacques-Cartier Park. Plan your return trip in advance, as the last local buses will depart Transitway Stations at around 11:30 p.m. or midnight.
Fares
• Free service after 10 p.m. on all OC Transpo and STO bus routes and the O-Train. Regular fares will apply until 10 p.m. Children age 5 and under ride free all day.
• Free transit all day for seniors presenting a ticket to the Mayor’s Breakfast at Lansdowne Park.
• Families can travel all day with a DayPass available on the bus for $7.50. A family includes up to six people, with a maximum of two who are 12 or older.
Thousands of free Park & Ride spaces
• Thousands of spaces will be available at ten OC Transpo Park & Ride lots served by high-frequency Transitway routes 94, 95, 96, 97, 98 or 99 and the O-Train.
• Many more spaces will be available courtesy of Bayshore Shopping Centre, Billings Bridge Shopping Centre, Carlingwood Shopping Centre, Place d’Orléans Shopping Centre, South Keys Shopping Centre and St. Laurent Centre, as well as Algonquin College, Carleton University and Canada Post (Heron/Riverside).
Leave early and arrive in time
• Due to the large crowds, plan to leave home early to arrive in time for the fireworks.
• Bus detours will be in effect downtown due to road closures.
• Mackenzie King Bridge will be closed to pedestrians after 7 p.m., so no passengers can be picked up or dropped off at that station in the evening.
• After the fireworks, buses will be available on Slater, Albert and Bank Streets.
Information and ticket sales on July 1
• OC Transpo’s Rideau Centre Sales office will sell tickets and passes from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
• An OC Transpo information booth will be located at Confederation Square across from the Chateau Laurier from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Further information is available by calling OC Transpo Information at 613-741-4390 (open July 1 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.) and by visiting octranspo.com.
