Theatre companies from across the Ottawa region will battle it out for
supremacy and the coveted Rubber Chicken Award in a "contest of
creation" - the 10th annual Ottawa Theatre Challenge taking place
Saturday, March 27, 7:30pm at the National Arts Centre's Fourth Stage
in celebration of International World Theatre Day.
Hosted by A Company of Fools, contestants will have 48 hours to create
a new short work based on "objects of inspiration" chosen by last
year's winners, Eddie May Murder Mysteries. Contestants will then take
to the stage and battle for approval, adoration and applause. A mock
panel of judges (all of whom take bribes) will decide the winner of
the Rubber Chicken Award (our equivalent of the Stanley Cup) and
bragging rights.
The evening will aid the charity of choice selected by the previous
year's winner. This year, proceeds will benefit the Canadian Improv
Games; an education based format of improvisational theatre for
Canadian high school students.
Now in it's tenth year, the Ottawa Theatre Challenge brings the Ottawa
theatre community together in celebration of International World
Theatre Day. First launched in 1961 by the International Theatre
Institute, World Theatre Day is celebrated every year on March 27
around the world.
Tickets for the Ottawa Theatre Challenge are on sale now through the
National Arts Centre and can be purchased at the box office or by
visiting www.nac-cna.ca.
