May 26: "Manufactured by the Dominion Bridge Company of Lachine, Quebec, it was erected in 1898 in just two months at a cost of $75,000 ... one of Ottawa's earliest community skating rinks ... the original Ottawa Senators won the Stanley Cup here in 1904... designated a heritage building in 1984." John, the artist who created this mural, writes: "Mary Pal of the Glebe Center retirement home gave me an opportunity to rekindle my passion for paint. I just wish there were more spots in Ottawa where artists could display their works and eradicate some of the stereotypes that we artists are often pigeon-holed into. There's not much uglier than a bare grey wall and I think society now realizes that graffiti does not equal gang activity, so why not throw a little colour on these drab walls?" Read more...
